air inlet duct / air intake?
Good morning!
Bought a 2004 A8L back in November and love this thing. I don't wrench myself and would classify myself as a novice when it comes to working on cars. That being said, I was a putting washer fluid in a few weeks ago and noticed a piece of the air intake was missing. I've attached a picture but cannot determine if it's the center or rear air inlet duct. I'll be taking it in next week, but wonder if anyone has any input or suggestions. If I'm already going to have to replace pieces of this, are there any other options on the market for air intakes on an A8L?? Thanks for sharing your wisdom!
The schematic from the parts webpage makes me believe it might be the center piece, but we shall see.

Here is the part. It is actually very easy to install. There isn't any air intake options out there for the a8 that make any difference. But having this piece will make a big difference, right now you are pulling air from the hot engine bay, with this piece you will get that nice cool fresh air that the audi v8 loves. Good luck.

It is the worst part of an oil change
Mine has not ever been easy to reinstall. Ordered a new one and spent at least an hour trying to get it to snap around the inlet and air box. Ended up putting the old one back.
I was advised to boil in Water to soften. The underwood temp will set it to shape over time.
That is most likely what happened to yours. Someone left it out after reinstalling airbox.

If the front has never been hit, the alignment should be perfectly for
the accordion plastic hose to connect. The length is just about right. When you change the oil, or need to remove the air cleaner housing, just push it back to clear the housing and pull it out.
Cheers,
Louis

Thanks for all the feedback! That piece was a nightmare to get put in (probably more due to my skill level than anything else). Haven't seen the fuel economy rebound yet, but taking it in for service tomorrow.
