By the side of the steering above the fuses (on the passenger side also) there is this thing that if you pull the lever and open it up there is something that looks like a memory /simm card. Can anyone tell me what it is for?

Please elaborate whate cable connects here? When I pull back the lever there is some type of card in the slot.
