So i install AMI unit
I upgrade to version 850 from CD1.
But probably i'm missing something.
I bought from ebay, the USB cable for AMI, so i can insert flash disk, or hard drive to listen mp3.
when i insert usb i get the message below and of course i cannot access the flash drive.

Do you have the right cable ? there are cables on eBay for using an iPod that have a 'K' suffix part number and those cables wont work with our MOST type AMI units because they are for the CAN-BUS based AMI units. So maybe there are also two types of USB cables.

Make sure your memory stick is formatted fat 32
Try a couple of different brands as I had trouble with it reading a couple of memory sticks.
These days a 64 or 32 mb stick is plenty.
I also think there are a couple of different sub cables which also maybe the problem.
Only small hard drives that don't need external power can be used.
Also try a reboot of Mmi can't hurt.

For those who want to modify their cable to work with all USB data
All you need is a USB host connector - then connect the USB lines to it.
I think it's a good idea, I can plug the USB lightning cable to my iPhone 5 or 6. I'll do it when I have time this week.
Cheers,
Louis

While Dension Gateway is a nice alternative (and the best aftermarket alternative to AMI and to MP3 CD-Changer), I still recommend the AMI.
I used Dension Gateway 500 many years on my A6 until I bought the A8, and I can compare them. AMI integrates much better with the car.

Because Dension Gateway emulates a CD-Changer, it integrates better than AMI with SDS (actually, AMI is inexistent for SDS, unless there is a way to change media sources other than CD, that I don't know of).
I still think the AMI is a better choice than Dension Gateway, so I still use AMI, because SDS is not as useful as I thought, it is very limited especially if you want to do everything hands-free, because eventually you'll have to put a finger here and there.
