im new here just got a8 d3 4.0tdi 2005
problem i got is when car start cold make noise taping for 1-3 sec and engine sound diferent sound like small engine and after that engine sound normal i been reading about it online all point to chain tensioner
also dont start very good takes a bit to start feel like slow cranking
im thinking glow plugs mayby battery is on 100%
i hope its glow plugs cause problem
fault codes im getting are










any advice will b helpfull

Well, since this forum is mostly a North American forum, and the 4.0TDI is not common here, this is just a wild guess/assumption. But from your codes, it seems like the noise that you are hearing is from the intake manifold. That may cause a problem with starting the engine. Disregard the code for valve for torque support mount. That's very common for early D3s and really isn't important unless if the engine mount is leaking fluid or causing excessive vibration. Chains are a possibility, but not sure about chain reliability on the 4.0TDi since it's not common in this forum.

hi thanx for reply sorry i forgot to say i live in england
i have check car lastnite i turn ignition 3 times on off for glow plugs to get more heat and did start normal with out noice so im changing glow plugs soon
i got delphi glow plugs hope they ok thanx again i will keep update

Good luck, I hope that solves it for you. It sounds like a fair bet from what you describe. I don't think we ever got the 4.0tdi in North America at all. The 3.0 diesel is our first Audi diesel, as far as I know. Maybe the little 4 cylinder one? We do get a D3 diesel owner from time to time, but they are few. Still, a lot of things are shared among the platform, or common to other diesels that we do have here in North America, so usually we can still help brainstorm.
