Mine updated without a hitch with no negative effects. 46.1 Now my phone syncs contacts and recent calls and has no issues.

I would say about around march/april of this year. Had it done when I had my timing belt service done.

Default The release notes for 4140...

said specifically that among other things it was meant to improve some Bluetooth compatibility issues. The notes were posted briefly but then vaporized, probably over a copyright issue or some such. Thus may be worth a shot.

4140 should of course be subsumed inside 4610. Having just done the 4610 update, it wasn't clear to me what the obvious changes were. But since they have the clean up disk with it, it may have had a fair amount to do with just simplifying updating and getting away from the old problem of needing to pass through the 3360 update to avoid frying modules if you skipped straight to 4140. from a pre 3360 version.

Had update done today.

Paired to my BB without a hitch.

Got my wife's Samsung out, and yes, this time 'round it paired quickly, no problem at all.

BUT...the MMI will NOT allow contact/phonebook transfer with the Samsung.

We're screwed. Paid for the update, expected all to be fine, but still no phonebook transfer.

What's with the Audi engineers?

What's with the Samsung engineers?

Good grief - phone pairs and transfers contacts on my other vehicles just fine.

Crap.

Transfer your wife's contacts to your BB and from it to Audi.

This is why MS Windows is sh!tty spaghetti bloatcode nowadays - trying be everything to everybody.

There would be dozens of updates to MMI every month if it worked with everything, it wouldn't work well with most, and there aren't any true standards for BT transfers.

ps - I'm still looking for a desk check binder that doesn't exist anymore for checks that can still be ordered and I have thousands of

pps- reminds me, need new ribbons for the Selectric, can't get them for the Remington anymore

Transferring the contacts from the Samsung may be challenging, but since I have a BT MacBook I may try that first or perhaps even pair the two phones.....and I guess your suggestion would be create a hotlist on the BB with all her contacts, and push the hotlist to the Audi....would it really 'stay' with the Audi? Always thought the MMI read the BT device, and read the contacts directly.

Thanks for the suggestion...will give it a go.

I have a 2006 A8 that pairs with my motorola DROID, but like your wife's samsung, does not download contacts. I paid Audi to update the MMI to 46.10, but it didn't help - still no contacts.

FWIW - My 2007 A4 downloads contacts just fine.

I believe that some 2006-2007 A8s had a defective Bluetooth telephone module, and that this is the problem you and Eric are experiencing. I further believe that this problem was caused by the MMI upgrade, and that the BT module will now no longer accept firmware changes via subsequent MMI upgrades. Audi had a campaign to replace the BT module (RVU - Repairing telephone preparation: TSB# 2018510/3), but it has since expired. Your options are to live without the address book/directory or replace the module (click the link in the previous sentence to see the Audi instructions).
