Just had the blower stop working on my 2005 A6. No burning smell though. I found that if I got enough air going through it (fan on 5, going down the highway in econ mode) i could get it to work. Read where the dust from the brushes may be causing a short so I pulled out the blower motor (not to hard on an A6) removed the little trap door where you can gain access to the brushes, blew out all the dust (there was quite a bit) and gave it a shot of contact cleaner. Seemed to solve my problem.

Usual question: do you have a solar roof?

If so, the blower fan is probably gone, or more specifically/likely brushes worn out.

No solar sun roof. Replaced 30 amp fuse h was burnt. Took motor out checked with battery and runs great. Brushes are real good also. Replaced resister which was fried. Still can't get blower to run. Is there a relay and if so does anyone know which one, left or right side?

Change the blower motor anyway. It is now 11 years old. Just because it spins when connected to a battery doesn't mean that it is good. It could have a shorted winding and drawing too much current. All it takes is one shorted turn.

I am taking it in to get it checked. Has anyone had their motor rebuild?

My son has changed brushes but that can a short term fix sometimes as the commutator wears too. Once the copper is gone from the commutator the armature is shot.

Just buy a new one and move on. Then you can rebuild the old one and keep it as a spare assuming the brushes are the only issue. In your case, since it burned up one resistor and possibly something else, just scrap the old motor.

Yep, I used to do this stuff when I was in college and few $ too. Or maybe somewhat more reliably, junk yard part from a low mileage one. But I started to value my time more and moved on. Anything I replace with new OE/OES typically does not get touched again for life of car, solar roof blowers maybe being a rare exception from my C5 experience with one. On the other hand, replaced many a home improvised repair and various rebuilds over the years.

I have an 03 a8l with the solar sun roof. Is my blower not blowing due to the solar relay switch or some other issue. I have read it could be but can't find any relays in any location that people have said it would be. Passenger right kick panel is only fuses and under dash has nothing. Where should I look? Or am I even on the right track?
