Center Console Removal to replace cup holder
I recently picked up an 06 A8. The cupholder housing in the console needs to be replaced. I had assumed that the center console would be easy to remove... I was wrong. I need to remove the wood trim on top to install...
Anyone removed the console before?
Thanks!

Are you just removing the cupholder assembly inside the housing? Mine 07 S8 cupholder pops out real easy for cleaning. It has tabs on the sides that can be accessed with a thin long instrument.

In my service history on my car the cupholder had to be replaced twice. Why; I don't know exactly lol. That is the only thing i hate about the A8 is the placement of the cup holders.

Cup holder should pull straight out without needing to undo anything. If you need to pull the center console for anything, pull out ashtray, undo Torx screws, and gently pull up trim piece. the whole thing comes out quite easily, and takes about 5 minutes to take out. There are clips all along the sides of the trim piece, so it comes in and out very easily. This is how you get your Start/Stop switch to replace it when it goes bad as well.

Thanks Mattias. Exactly what I was looking for. The cup holder housing is what needs to be replaced, so I will be removing the trim tonight.
I have to agree with you Brozeeboy, the cup holders are the only thing I dislike about the car!

I have a 04 A8l and need to remove the center console for cleaning the buttons. I spilled coffee on the console and now the buttons stick, even worse when in it is cold. I am not sure how to do it, so if anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

havent done it myself but must be possible to snap off the buttons, or in worst case you need to snap the entire MMI control module apart. I don´t really recall how its put together but just remove the trim and the module and you´ll see. its easy and only takes 10-15min.

A previous poster above the OP commented on how to remove it to gain access to buttons due to a spill. That is the reasoning behind; the main idea of the post shifted.
