Default Change of chain tensioners on a 4.2 BFM

Evening from Bulgaria!
Me and a friend of mine are about to change the chain tensioners on his A8 4e 4.2 petrol BFM engine. As you may assume cause therefore is the random misfire on all cylinders, rough running at idle etc. (coils, plugs, vacuum checked). So my question - do we have to renew the tensioners in case those look ok after we open the rocker covers or can we just change both chains and pads? said in another way - do the tensioners go bad as often as chains and pads?
any credit would be appreciated
many thanks
greetings from sunny Bulgaria

I too am awaiting this job. I will be ordering the tensioners, any information relevant to this job that can be of use to me prior.

they do not go bad that oftem on the timing belt engines. Meaning the camshaft chain tensioners. Very pricey parts. I have 280,000 miles on mine. Similar ones on the 1.8L VW/Audi engines, about 400,000 miles on two. All original. Buy the tensioner service tool. Crazy to do without it. Also the correct service manual.
Youtube videos are a joke.
