Oh, wow thank you so much!

I went into my profile but it won't let me edit my profile. Is there a way to go about doing this?

Edit:

Is this the correct Serpentine belt Idler? Audi D3 A8 Quattro 4.2 - 079903341F - Accessory Belt Idler Pulley - ES#285142

Hi, I'm a super newbie and I just bought a 2007 A8L and there is nothing in my manual about changing the timing belt. At how many miles is this done? This looks like an incredibly massive undertaking!

If you are in the U.S, you won't have a timing belt in 2007. You will have the timing chain. Congratulations on your purchase!

Welcome to the board.

2007 (and on) doesn't have timing belt. Camshafts are driven by chains. No maintenance required.

Thank you for an excellent writeup.

I'm in this process, but I'm daunted by the amount of special tools I have to buy, I thought I could get away with just the camshaft holding tool, but now I fear I have to order more tools and spend more $$$. :/

You can rent them as well. Shoot me a PM with an email address if you want to discuss renting them from me.

Since you already started the job, looks like you need them pretty quick. I will not be able to ship them out until next week due to travel. That said, I'd need a deposit sent anyway. I will try to check my PM's in case you want to discuss. Leave a phone number in a PM for a faster reply.

Cam lock bar and crank pin are cheap. Cam puller is pretty cheap as well:
