D3 2003 4.2 Introduction and some (retrofit) questions
Hello everybody,
I am the proud owner of an Audi D3 4.2 2003, and have been driving the car for almost one year now. Still loving every minute of it.
I have lowered the car a bit with VCDS, installed a Dension 500 for USB/iPhone connectivity, and fixed some small issues in the time I've owned it. Have been looking at more then one A8 and this one was by far the best looking and well maintained A8 I'd seen.
This forum has been more than helpful so far, and saved me a lot of trips to the stealership. Since I drive the car a lot, and petrol isn't cheap in the Netherlands (6,87eur/gallon) I had an LPG conversion done when I bought the car and very happy with it, no noticable difference with driving on petrol.
I have driven over 30k (km's) with the car now, without any real issues.
Here are some pictures (noticed my lense is dirty ).
Now for the questions.. I have retrofitted both a bluetooth module (coming from an A6, but partnumbers match and should work if i am informed correct), and a (new) rain/lightsensor.
The bluetooth module can be reached by VCDS:
But the MMI (even after restart) will give me 'no telephone installed', and getting a coding error on 07-Control head:
When adapting the module in 07, VCDS won't show me bluetooth, only the following:
Now, I cannot get the module to work and the coding error to go away. When I start my car, I can see the module with my iPhone and pair, so I know it's working. My MMI is on the latest in Europe, 5570.
How can I fix this? Should a module from an A6 work in an A8?
Here are the module details:
Address 77: Telephone Labels: 4E0-910-336.lbl
Part No SW: 4E0 910 336 H HW: 4E0 862 335
Component: Handyvorb2 H11 0700
Revision: 00000000 Serial number: 00000007510590
Coding: 0010900
Shop #: WSC 98765 666 38033
VCID: 275D061296686426FA7-8072
Also, the rain/light sensor is working (just need to get a new windshield), but sometimes gives me an error in the cluster saying it's defective. When this happens my sidemirrors go black (dimmed). My guess is the power from the roof eletrics is gone sometimes and then the sensor isn't powered either.
I've had my sidemirrors go (and stay) black before, and then had to disconnect my battery before they would be ok again. It seems since i've had the sensor installed it's happening more often. VCDS scan sometimes shows 'button for reading light stuck' but not always.
I have done an optical bus scan with VCDS and it comes out clean.
Does anybody have any ideas on what to replace/change to keep my mirrors from going black? I don't know if the sensor retrofit has anything to do with it, but it's happening more often since I have fitted it. Power issue (battery) maybe?
I can't seem to find the fuse for the dimming function either, anyone?
And one more question, I have had my 20 inch imitation S8 wheels refurbished, and missing one chrome ring as you can see on the pictures (rear right). I've been cheking out Ebay and local shops, but no luck so far. Anyone knows where I can get these? Will OEM S8 rings fit?
Here are some pictures of the wheel:
Thanks, and hope my English is ok
Edit: Sorry for the long post

Did you have the Motorola phone in your A8?
I did and I simply did the pin swap for the Bluetooth connection and it worked without any coding. As long as you have a telephone installed it should be ok to work without coding.
Another possibility is, if you have the proper full voice control installed, the phone module voice control must be turned off. Only one can work at one time.
Full voice control means you can tell the car to change a disc or tell it navigation addresses. Phone voice control is only the phone.

My car did indeed come with the Motorola phone. First tried it without coding, after I found it didn't work I changed the coding.
And I do not have voice control, this too is something I want to retrofit.

Maybe check your pins connections. Perhaps you have a faulty Bluetooth unit.
Voice control is easy as it just plugs into the radio K box. As long as you get one you can get a dealer to put CD's in for the language and remove the component protection.
Mine came with it already so I was good.
Tip - (look on ebay for an entire K box, with the SDS module in it. Often cheaper than buying the SDS module solo)

Try this: Setup + Car buttons for ~5 sec > Hidden Menu > MMI >APK 0X01, 0X0B, oX0C > Telephone Make check: UHV/BTA if it is not already checked.

0x07 is coded incorrectly.
Try 0000003 or whatever language you desire per the wiki.
The implausible signal on 0x09 usually means wiring.
I'm not convinced it is coded properly either...
Edit: When you install SDS don't code a language there or on module 77

When unplugging the sensor it gives a permanent error code.
I'm thinking this may be because it's not factory build and added afterwards?
Can anyone that has successfully retrofited the sensor confirm if this error message is 'normal' after this retrofit?
And 07 actually is correctly coded I think:
If I change it to something like English (2/3), it changes the spoken navigation language to English. If I set it back to 10 it's on Dutch again.
It was always set to Dutch before and never gave me coding errors, and changing it now does not make my coding error go away.
I will scan my car's coding and upload it tomorrow. I do not have it with me today.

Thank you all for the input, appreciate it.

The implausible signal on 0x09 message is only created once (and everytime) on startup of the car.I can delete it in VCDS and stays away until started again. The wiring should be ok, checked it on both ends. The sensing of light/rain also works.

SVM would still require coding as it would set the module to 'as delivered'
My RLS was 4E0 910 557 but that has probably been superseded,
but it's coding was 00139548
You might have to wait for a retrofit scan from someone.
Ah... I was off a digit thinking you had mute-wire active.
Worst case if you can't find an answer you might want to ask here.
