Default Audi has been very touchy about shifters ever since...

the Audi 5000 debacle with the 60 Minutes hatchet job and a few moms literally pushing their kids through garage doors. Made for good TV and literally almost drove Audi out of the US market when it sucked wind for years after, coupled with idiotic cost plus based pricing in a competitive market. I owned one; a 5 speed stick.

Newest shifters are now all electronic--no cable left to the shifter itself--so the shifter has just become a form of quasi familiar driver experience. It's now fully a an electrical/electronic giant switch in disguise in some newer models.

Some pics of that assembly if you have them would be useful though as there may be a workaround.
It might be easier than we thought. Since it is your idea you have to be a pioneer. Try switching yellow/green and yellow/blue wires in the harness coming out from top left side of the selector. You have to take wood trim with MMI buttons off, but that is very easy.

Interesting. Do you know what those wires are, and what signals they carry? canbus, something else, switch signals on/off....?

Swapping connector wires around between electronic modules is a recipe for a blown module somewhere if you don't know what signals they carry.

There are only three wires going from the selector board to the transmission control module named Gutter, Back and High. That sounds like three Tiptronic positions. Those two are Back and High. That sounds like - and +. Rest of gears are selected mechanically.

I don't know what signals they carry. Since they needed three wires I believe it is just simple + or -. I don't know the voltage, but believe that it is the same in all three wires. Based on that I would dare to try.

I have a spare selector board. I might try to decipher it. Just those two wires. I have no knowledge for more.

I'm guessing the bezel won't work alone and you need the whole (U.K.) unit?

I think I found the answer to the manual shift.
Check out this video on YouTube:

So swapping those two wires works! My next step.
