Default ESP, ABS and Parking Brake Lights

I have a 2005 A8 that starting having the ESP, ABS and Parking Brake light come on. The ESP and ABS light will start to come on and off for about 10 miles, then will stay on. Once this happens, the Parking Brake warning light will come on. The parking brake light will go out when I come to a stop, but come back on after about 10 mph. I have replaced the brake light switch and also checked the rear brake pads.
Here are the codes the I get with my Vagcom.

I'm afraid its time to get the ABS pump rebuilt, but would like some advice.

You will need to buy the interface and download the software, or, borrow/rent someone's. Or, go to someone with it who will scan for free or pay them. Do you consider yourself qualified to repair a fault once determined? If not, just take the car to a shop and have the shop do the troubleshooting & repair. However, "It gonna cost ya"...

I'm very qualified to fix just about anything on these cars. It's also common knowledge that these ABS modules fail all the time. It's very rare that it is steering angle, wheel speed sensor, and anything else people throw out. As a matter of fact, it's a when and not if in any D3, they just aren't made that well.

Wow... Good to know that's common knowledge ?? Try the C5/D2 era; typically the electronic board there with third party rebuilders around, not the main hydraulic unit components. Do seem to remember confirmed angle sensors, confirmed bad wiring out to the wheel sensors, some wheel sensors, and of course lots of brake pedal sensors on the early ones. But jeez maybe Mister Bally and I don't recall so good after only ten years ownership or so, a post here and there and a little wrenching.

If you don't have VCDS/VAG-COM BTW, you don't have the basic necessary tools to "fix just about anything on these cars." Q.E.D. VCDS will tell you many/most of those things directly rather than throwing parts at it.

If you Google on the sensor G201 and Audi, it comes up as in the main unit unfortunately. Sounds like you were already concluding that. Anyway, more direct experience can be found searching against those. C6 and Q7 posts are going to be similar era systems for what its worth since D3 is lesser volume.

One easy thought though, triggered by your comments about it being somewhat episodic rather than continuous: Try unplugging the ABS unit itself at the main connector and then reconnecting. Maybe spray some Deoxit/contact cleaner while you are at it.

Good to know that I'm on borrowed time on my 12 year old ABS assembly with 240,000 miles. Thanks.
By the way, I do get an ESP/StabilityControl indicator light every few weeks which resets with the next ignition cycle. I've confirmed with VCDS that it is a SteeringAngle sensor fault.

Also, FYI, I've worked in design & development of ABS Since 1985. Primarily pneumatic for heavy duty trucks but also some hydraulic systems as well. The #1 failure by far is at the wheel ends.

BTW, better only do the speed runs at Bonneville like before since its so wide open. Never know when you may need to just coast down from 65, I mean 165, or so with those undependable parts...

Yep, did my angle sensor BTW as well.

Well, that's good to know with all the experience, I'm no rookie though. These fail, it's common, more so than angle sensors. Everyone likes to make it seem these engines are so complex, they aren't, I've torn down 6. I've been working on engines for a while, and besides a few differences, it's no different from when I tear down my ls1. The electrical system is however complex, so yea vag is a plus. While I do respect everyone and their experiences, they are prone to fail. It's not if, it's when, so y not get it rebuilt? It's not that hard to remove, and it's relatively cheap to get rebuilt.

Keithrc, I'd like for u to search for a user by the name of iron_Mike. He had the same symptoms, same car (04), same problem for a large portion of ppl with those symptoms.
