Default 2004 D3 sat idle for 6 months - now no AC?

Hello Folks. Its been a few years since I've posted. Ok, last summer I had my 04 recharged with freon at the shop. At that point it had 110,000 miles on it and the A/C was ice cold. Took the kids across the country for one month during summer break. Came back home at, drove it for a few weeks then went away to Asia. When I came back, ran into the winter of the century here in the NE and my inspection had expired. In addition, a whole bunch of leaves and dirt collected around the car. The battery drained so I basically let the car sit until last month. Everything runs fine except the A/C is blowing warm/hot air. Checked all the settings and fuses, all fine. Could it be that I am out of freon already after just 10,000 miles?? If the temp was 70 degrees outside and the settings was at 60 degrees, the fan will kick in trying to reach 60, but if I set to 80, it will then slow down ( perhaps the thermostat is working ?). Is there something else I should check before I pay them again to get the freon recharged?

Thank you for the help!!

PS- When I was on the trip, the car had a minor incident with the front lower bumper lip. It was hooked on a parking space concrete, nearly torn off. Not sure if any AC sensors are there.

Well since you had it recharged basically before you parked it, you have a minor leak in the system. The seals in the compressor probably dried up or possibly a condenser leak. If you drove the car everyday and used the AC often then it would have worked longer than 6 months or possibly more because using it lubes and swells up the seals temporarily even if it has a minor leak. Sounds like you need another charge in the system. I would get the system diagnosed by taking it to a shop and they will put dye in the system telling you where the leak is. If you're mechanically inclined and they tell you where it's leaking at, you might be able to fix that component yourself and take it back to the shop and have the system evacuated and recharged.
