Default Front suspension drop...is this a sign of an issue

I was replacing the drive side headlight bulb on my 08 A8L with 81K miles. I like to put the car in lift mode, remove the wheel, drop the wheel liner and replace the bulb. While I had the driver side jacked up and on a jack stand I went to grab my tools. I heard an air release which I thought was a bit odd. Finished the bulb job, dropped the car and the front was on the ground. Started the car and both the amber and green car ride height lights were blinking. Switched from lift to comfort....no height change....backed the car out of the garage....nothing....switched to dynamic....nothing....back to lift and the car height was correct and the lights stopped blinking. Switched to dynamic and drove down the road. All is well so far two hours later.
Is this a sign that I have an issue brewing?

Not completely clear, but likely fine. Several times over the many I lifted it up for work or tire changes or whatever, I forgot to put it in jack mode. Like you I put in lift mode first, but you need jack mode regardless. Lift and jack mode are not the same, just in case you don't already know that. You don't mention jack mode at all. If not in jack mode when I goofed, when I dropped it back down it would sometimes head down for bump stops. Not just the end or side I jacked up sometimes, but more. I would start it, let compressor kick in and pressurize system and it all came back fine. I did lose an air strut in front right, but it was way disconnected time wise from any of these jacking faux pax's--many years and tens of thousands of miles in some cases. I had been on a 3+ week vacation when I came back and saw it down for first time; no connection to maintenance involving any recent jacking.

Default Forgot about the jack mode......

I've only had the car for four plus years now...LOL
Thanks for all of your input here over the years!

+1, that's what happens when you forget to put it in jack mode and then jack a corner up. It confuses the leveling system so it just drops to the deck until it figures itself back out and re-levels. Makes for fun times when your trolley jack gets stuck under the car because if it. Ask me how I know. 😳

Although it's worth noting that the system isn't completely dumb. It will auto enable jack mode when the car is on a lift and it senses all 4 wheels being lifted off the ground simultaneously.
