Hello everyone,

First a good note. I've moved the Pacific Northwest, am near sea level, and I'm running 92 octane gas. My car has turned into a rocket. The sluggishness it was experiencing in Utah is gone. Now the bad note. My passenger side (right) headlight seems to be throwing codes. What could it be? Based upon searches it appears that I need to purchase and install a new ballast (power output stage). Is that right? Is it possible to fix faulty ballasts?

Note: The faulty headlight comes on, it just aims much lower than it should. Also neither light goes through the self leveling procedure when I start the car, and I don't believe the lights are steering through corners either. The right headlight (the faulty one) is aiming quite low.

If the light comes on then it's not the ballast. Looks like the right headlight range adjustment motor is faulty. Could be a bad connection or a bad motor. Not sure on the fix beyond replacement but I would see if I could dismantle and repair it as the lamp units are not cheap.

Hello everyone,

Here's what ended up being the cause of my 2006 A8's headlight issue. I took the car to the dealer today and they toiled over it and eventually traced the issue, apparently, to a faulty pin on the connector where the headlight plugs into some control module (on the firewall area, not on the headlight side). The fix is apparently to repair the plug and splice a wire, or something like that. They say they'll have it done tomorrow for around $400.

It would have taken me forever to diagnose that.

I'm starting to get an occasional (but never permanent) warning light for the adaptive headlight on my '07 D3 so I am thinking some work is going to have to be done soon. I just returned from Germany and saw many D3's there with what appeared to be "built in" LED DRL's. Does anyone know where these replacement headlight units with the internal LED's can be purchased for a D3?

I put the S8 headlights onto my A8L D3 and it works fine. The DRLs are round just like the A8 but it's LEDs instead of a single bulb.

Bought mine on eBay.
