Hi 07 Audi S8 tire help
Hi all, I have 07 s8 with strange tire wear, i have had looked by several indy's they all seem to think the its a tire problem but this would the 3rd one.
the rear passenger tire wears only in the middle, the edges look fine.
the size that is on now is 275 35 20 not the original 265
any ideas would be great.
Thanks
G

Wear in the middle of the tyre usually means it's over-inflated.
Are you using the standard pressures for the 265 wheels on the 275 tyres? If so, chances are they're being over-inflated.
I also use 275/35 tyres on my S8 and I keep the pressures at around 33 psi for the rear and 36 psi at the front. These are the recommended pressures for the A8 with that size tyre fitted as standard (or so I'm told).
I've not had my car very long, only a few months and it's been off the road for around half the time I've owned it, so I can't offer any comment on whether those pressures work, only that they're what was recommended to me.

If you have only center wear, it could be three things or a combo of all three.
Usually over inflation. Secondly what is the width of your wheels? If too narrow for your tire size, it can cause center wear. And lastly if there is also feathering type wear along with center wear, it's spinning your tires with gobs of torque and HP with your V10.

As others said, likely too much pressure. Drop it a few PSI. From D3 W12 experience with 275's and comparable HP w/ somewhat more torque, center wear in back is very sensitive to pressures.

What tire pressure do you run, is it just the one position "rear passenger" that has worn 3 times, is that rim the proper width, does it match the other three ?
"Middle Tread Wear
Excessive wear in the middle of your tire may indicate that there is constantly too much air pressure in the tire. This high level of air pressure causes the tire to ride on the center of the tread and wears it prematurely. Sometimes this middle tread wear pattern can result from extremely wide tires on narrow rims."

Yep, sounds like someone may have filled them to the MAX pressure shown on the tire sidewall. Not how it's done/set. That is a number from tire manufacturer that has nothing to do w/ vehicle manufacturer's settings. Even 40 PSI (sold) continuously will start to wear center a bit more quickly from my long term experience, let alone 51.
TPMS readings are accurate, but look at first thing in morning to be sure you are setting pressures cold.
