Default How rare is the A8 D3 sports SWB W12?

Good day everyone and apologies if this question has been answered before, but I haven't managed to find much info about these. I wondered how common they were in the US and other LHD markets before the fabulous W12 engine was confined to the LWB limos and Bentleys. There are only about 60 in the UK (right hand drive, of course) with the slightly lower final drive than the LWB A8 which gives it stunning mid-range performance, so I think they will become collectors items.

I don't think such a thing ever existed in the U.S. With regards it being a collector piece, maybe in 40yrs time, but at best an obscure not especially valuable proposition.

I have one(SWB). It's a rare car and almost identical performance compared to the S8. Don't know about it ever beeing a collectors item. As an enthusiast, I love it! It never shipped to the US in SWB.

Thanks for that info. Yes, I love it too. With its all aluminium body and unstressed engine it should last me out - unless I drive it into a tree! I wonder how many there are in Europe and whether they were shipped to China?

If you check mobile.de, you will notice that especially southern europe (Italy, Spain) is "full" of SWB W12's, most model years 2005-2006. They didn't sell LWB models as much there, as these countries are short on parking space for big cars. I was totally screwed with my LWB W12 there 2 weeks ago, was hard to find parking spots!

These are even not so uncommon in other european countries, especially Germany.

All new W12's to northern europe are LWB's AFAIK

Here's a few SWB W12's, there are more on mobile.de

SWB's were never sold in North America, either D3 or current D4. Only LWB W12's. If you want a high powered D3 in SWB in North America, it's an S8.

Thank you volvopentaman, that's interesting. And reassuring - the average mileage of these 10 cars is 115,000 - one has over 150,000m. If mobile.de is the German equivalent of UK's autotrader they are probably quite rare. There are always lots of Continentals and DB9s on autotrader but very rarely an SWB W12.
