I think I heard a "Woot" today from accelerating
I couldn't duplicate the sound, but on the congested freeway to home, I accelerated a few times at low speeds and I could hear the "wooting" sound from under the car. The transmission is still great. So, if it only exists when accelerate from 3-4th gear as people say once in a while then I can live with it as long as the transmission doesn't break on me. I asked my wife if she heard anything, she said nothing, especially with Dave Ross commentary on the radio. We love listening to him.
May be it was Dave's wooting .
Cheers,
Louis

Well sounds like you have the 3-4 shifting hoot. I had that problem when I bought mine at 73k now have 76k on it. Had the updated fluid change at 74k and it costed me 1200 otd and it hasn't done it since. Its nothing major but its just an annoyance hearing stuff from a premium car.

It doesn't matter what TBS says... $1200 is 1/5th of
a rebuilt or used transmission replacement. It's not economically sound to me for just a oil change (regardless of color) to "get rid of a woot sound that comes and goes every few weeks or months".
I haven't heard anything since that day. Now to think of it, it does sound less loud than suspension squeaking. I wonder what happened to another post about the guy's going to change the fluid to get rid of the "hooting", he promised to write up or follow up on his thread... just disappear.
To me changing transmission fluid with different color fluid is like having cancer and go to third countries try to cure it with voodoo stuff... desperate measure.
Cheers,
Louis

I paid 2k and has the same service done. Fixed the problem 100 %, and should be cheaper next time as the whole flush isn't needed with as much fluid. Only reason it is so expensive is because more fluid is needed to completely flush out the old fluid that is a different formula then the new blue or newest, green fluid. IIRC it was $27 a qt. and I need 12-15 qts to do a full flush. Plus the price of the filter, gasket, etc.

All- Hi, when I bought my '04 with 73K on it, I was concerned about getting the transmission fluid changed due to mileage. The service manager at the Stealership insisted that I should NOT have the fluid changed and that it was "lifetime" transmission fluid. I never had it done and do hear the "woot" from time to time. The car now has 149K on it. I saw a post about getting the fluid changed at 80k. Should I get it changed or not? I am at a loss....

ATF is lifetime only for rich first buyer who would keep it for 2-3 years. For us:
Low cost simple solution: Buy 6 liters of ZF Lifeguard6 (gold) and just flush it at any oil shop.
More expensive and complicated solution: Add the filter and gasket, drop the pan and flush it.
Crazy expensive solution: Buy 18 liters of ZF Lifeguard6+ (blue), filter and gasket and flush it 3 times in a row.
