Default I'm driving a 2014 D4L 4.0T as a loaner

My D3 is at the dealer for the transmission hoot, rear sunshade problems, and getting my wheel alignment tweaked. They loaned me a 2014 D4L black on black with the 4.0T and I tell you what, that car literally takes off like a jet once those bi-turbos kick in. It is dangerously fast. It goes 60-120 mph in 3-4 seconds. It's cool that it has more updated technology but I don't like the reduced trunk space, and using a donut as a spare but the interior volume is the same. The side view mirrors are bigger so it visibility is a little bit better. This particular model is very well equipped and it is stickered at 106K and has just over 4,000 miles on it. What do you guys

Looks like you got cut off mid sentence so I will fix it for you:

"What do you guys think the chances are of me being able to convince my wife that I need to have this $100k car?"

or maybe

"What do you guys think about me just stealing this car? I doubt the dealer will even notice it missing."

Don't kid yourself, the D4 is awesome, but we are in the D3 forum because the D4 is half the price of our homes!

Default Currently waiting for about 2017...

to maybe look at a used 2015 after it does the usual big car/Audi depreciation nosedive. 2015's get another power tweak, plus get partial cylinder fuel shutdown to assist mileage. Seriously fast, and the 4.0T even in non-S8 form is now beyond either the D3 W12 or S8 performance wise.

I prefer the 2015 look too--clean up some of the styling oddities like the grill area and the curved DRL LED's Audi will be slowly burying after going wild on them in earlier models. A little less "ginormous A4." Yes, trunk design still not right on the 2015's either, but massaged a bit.

But, D3's still have more character or "soul" to me, and the electronics are honestly still "good enough." Owning the 2013 Q5 with much of the same newer stuff confirms that for me; Audi hardly holds this stuff as "exclusive" to the A8 anymore for more than literally a year or two. And w/ a D3 W12, in the real world I'm not lacking in the power dept. As an N.A. big displacement motor with big torque way low down, the turbo spool up is precisely zero, 100.0% of the time and circumstances.

Welcome to the next generation - where aging roundy 1990's styling is left behind by massive acceleration and vastly improved systems

Default At least with the D4, I may not have to retrofit too

many things. Does AMI still NOT support Android phone? I'm ordering some parts to make AMI to access and control Android tablets or phones (although I'm using ipods and old iPhones- the project is just for fun).

Is Audi an Apple partner or something?

Can't wait to get in one, regardless on how ugly it is... hehehehe.

In the next few years, if Elon Musk came up with some 5 passenger Tesla - 300 miles range for $50k-60k, good bye D3 & D4, and only Q7 will still be there.

Cheers,

Louis

Well it's a little bit too much car for me lol. My D3 is a lot of car too and the only thing I'm having a problem with now is my rear sunshade sometimes doesn't go up because I know something is broken on it but I haven't looked into it. Everything else works as it should and the best part about it is that it's paid for so I don't need to go into debt for a 100K car for what?? I'll be lucky to get 14-15K on trade for it. No thanks. It's too nice and it only has 74K miles on it.

Hoot = $2800. Sunshade = $1400 Tweaked =$200. so $4400, IF they don't find anything else wrong. And they will. Probably about $10k --- so you should just plan on trading it in on a nice RELIABLE car. Or...
You should autocross the new A8L. Blow some minds and heck the dealer will still clear a profit!

everything working for a change... I think you could have gotten a really nice Newer, lower mileage D3 with all the money you lost on all these cars.
It's been sunny and hot here in the last few weeks and the rear sunshade did help a little with keeping the sun out.

Cheers,

Louis

I couldn't find if those turbos are sequential or twins (one for each side). Sequential would have much better power/torque curve. It would be possible with the new position of turbos. Any ideas?

Default Twinned, twin scroll

In center of V. Not sequential. On regular 4.0T it feeds from one main air intake that then branches for each side of the V and its associated turbo. On the S8, it uses two truly separate air boxes and intakes. S8 has larger compressor wheels. Same basic stuff (detuned some) as the newer Bentleys w/ the "economy" boosted V8 instead of W12.
