Default It's my turn... low rider

Today, yellow and green suspension lights both came on, steady yellow, flashing green... driving on the freeway @ 60mph, bouncing like these lowered sports cars. Now at my friends house, will be going home 35 miles tonight. The wife is concerned, but I told her it's our cars time, I've read enough here that I don't worry much. Now, both front are low, it must be something besides the pump and shocks? I don't have my laptop since my kids are playing Overwatch, can't scan the car. Hate to use my phone to search these old posts. The lift was on but greyed out after a while. Anything should I watch for, tow the car home or follow Mr. Bally experience, drive carefully home under 60mph?

Cheers,
Louis

Again, usually just one side. See if it will pump up after you let it sit. Then watch for which side drops first hopefully after you get home safe. Difference between sides is subtle, but if you are on a flat surface (left to right), you should see one side a bit lower lower than the other. If unsure, give it another go the next morning/evening. Both get forced down if one side goes bad due to the overall weight and the sway bar tying them together. If you want to be sure it isn't a shock unit, leak test the air distribution block with some soapy water in spray bottle--under the driver's side fender liner.

What happened to mine was one shock went bad and since the system tries to keep the car level, it will lower the other side to compensate. In my case I could actually hear the strut leaking.

I assume after 60 miles driving with the front down, a new pump is needed?

Cheers,
Louis

Not necessarily. It's likely been stressed, but I have personally done far more miles on a bad suspension (don't throw stones, it was a necessity at the time) and didn't have to replace the pump. I hope your luck is the same.

I've always wanted to make videos on how to fix the low rider suspension and now the opportunity came. I'll find the leak and fix it. 119k miles, driven conservatively still fails. Just passed smog check very nicely.
Cheers,
Louis

When one of my dampers/struts got the major leak west of Chicago, the pump eventually thermally shut down so the front end dropped to the lowest position. I drove home on pothole-ridden Interstate 94 for 300 miles. Not a fun ride but no damage other than the engine cover scraped pretty good. No worries on California smooth roads for 35 miles.

Got home safe and sound, the car was so smooth beside bouncing on uneven roads... doing 70-75 without any problems. After a few miles, all rides options grayed out except the lift (I tried to lift it before driving).
Will troubleshoot the problems next weekend.
Thanks guys,
Louis
