Default Phone Bluetooth????

Can anyone please tell me if they know...
Does my audi phone cradle/phone have to be connected have to be connected to the car for my mobile phone bluetooth to work.
I took it out a while ago and the mobile phone was working via bluetooth but now all of a sudden I just get message in the MMI no phone connected and it won't let me search for devices. I am about to reinstall the audi phone but wanted to know if anyone knew.

Thanks

Default Basically, cradle is a toy

Phone connects to car via bluetooth, not cradle. Cradle is essentially a gimmick, at least on the post-bluetooth std. cars. Also awkward to use since it is buried under armrest and a set up to forgetting your phone in the car when you leave.

It only provides charging and maybe a better antenna connection. Look at the cradle itself and you should find a silkscreened Bluetooth notation on it, which is telling you is connects via Bletooth fundamentally. What it absolutely is not is some kind of bluetooth radio transmitter, antenna or base station.
