Default Lost my only key, what are my options?

I lost my only key for my 07. Is my only option to get towed to the dealership and have them program new keys? Any help would be much appreciated.!

Yup. Time to have it flat bedded.

I would say have them make a full set including valet key.

Yes, only option basically. If you want to take cost out of it, you can order the cut key portion from an internet dealer. They will need proof of ownership like your registration, plus your i.d. If you buy remote, you fax or scan it (assuming they believe you; audiusaparts knows me from many a purchase). You can then either buy the remote portion new or via something like eBay, but you need the correct one for D3's. Probably a local dealer will also involve some delay waiting for parts so either way it will take a bit of time.

You can have up to four remotes, and the valet key and the plastic key. The dealer will/should wipe all the keys from the memory and then start over. When I have gotten extra keys, programming charge doesn't vary so I get extras. Certainly you should have at least two for just this reason you now ran into. They failed to come up with all the keys when I bought mine CPO (part of what CPO required is a full key set), so I bought an extra two via the discount way and they programmed all for no extra charge. We had up to four drivers at the time.

nope. VCDS is a great tool, but does not do coding of keys. Furthermore, you'd need something to actual image the key with.

Thanks for the information. Loaded on a flatbed on my way to the dealership...

One related question, does the plastic key also have a chip that needs coded. I figure I'll get everything done at once.

Thanks again!

Yes, all keys must be mated to the car.

+1

But it looks like the lost key was not the only one you had?
