Default Low life (in a VW) electronically breaks into an Audi

Doesn't say what model, but sounds like it could be comfort lock equipped. Either that or mimicking the key remote in general. And Audi's are supposed to be one of the more hacker resistant compared to stuff like BMW/Mini's where they already had to do a patch for the Connected ones. Maybe not. Wonder if it the electronic key duplicating stuff starting to get out into the wild.

I'll bet he's a dealer tech who is a bicyclist and saw the highly-desirable bike when the car was in for service; made a duplicate fob and the rest is history.

At least he locked it before leaving?!

I found the actual device used to emulate the signal sent from the key fobs by accident doing a search for some tech equipment. The device is Illegal in the US and cost about $100 IIRC. I wont post the device link (or how i found it) here. I started to look for ways to defeat the device. Unfortunately I didn't come up with anything that didn't require a custom solution.

Default Could be...

Of course he managed to steal a (too) pricy bike that is going to be way too hot for CL, drive off in a car that ultimately still isn't a zillion of them on the road Civics or Camry's, and get his pic on the security camera. Won't take a rocket scientist to cross tab the TDI registrations against local area license photos--if car wasn't hot too. Even here in CA that's probably good for some state pen time. Then he might get to be a fellow roomie's new squeeze while honing his camera dodging and electronic hack skills and working out on the stationary bikes; seemed like a cool heist at the time...

And yes, probably is the key hacker stuff. I saw it online a while back too. Looked very shady. If not, Bay Area may soon be down one more Audi/VW tech.
