This sound is indicating a break in your MOST (fiber optic) ring. I get it on hot days until the car cools down. I've added a Dension 500 and stock bluetooth setup so I assume it's one of my connections contracting ever so slightly with the warmer temperatures.

In your case it sounds like a component is failing and breaking the ring.

Hello all,

I have the same problem in my wife's 2005 A8L. The MMI interface has had many spills etc. so I replaced it with a new unit directly from Audi. The problem still occurs. I just received my VCDS yesterday and ran a test of the MOST and it shows a fault for the "control head". Can anyone tell me where it is located in the car so I can check its connections?

Hello, it is on the right side behind glove box mounted to fire wall.

Thanks.

Is this it?

Any way to reset it or diagnose it? Or should I just do what the dealer would and start replacing expensive parts?

BTW, VCDS did show electrical and optical errors for the control head only.

It should now be away from climate control which remains in situ.
Lift the centre console wood insert and buttons carefully and unhook from armrest end last.
(gear shifter remains in situ.
Turn centre console and unplug all connectors.
Carry into house or workshop.

Put on a soft towel.
Remove all the screws that hold in the MMI switches and park brake switch.
Start/Stop button module is held in with a brass rod, you need to drift it out with a thin screwdriver or needle type instrument.

The MMI controls should now lift out from above.

Once the module is out, you can clean it all up and clean in the car (mine was pretty ad underneath)

I sprayed isopropyl alcohol int0 my switches but was careful not to get any on the exposed switches in case t damaged the coating.

Good luck!

I have recently bought a 2009 plated A8 from a UK Audi dealer. Shortly after purchase I noticed the radio cutting out,or the phone or the Sat Nav audio. Sometimes the system would operate for well over an hour before the fault would appear on other occasions it would start immediately.
Fortunately the car is under warranty and so Audi were responsible for fixing it. I was told that any unit on the MOST would affect the whole audio system. There were no fault codes detected but after isolating the CD player in the glovebox the fault disappeared. A new one was installed and so far the fault has not replicated itself. Hope this helps.

Default My 06 A8L's MMI turns itself ON/OFF this morning

Hello all,
I just got the car for over 1 week, I drove 6 hours without any problems. Last week, I update the MMI software from 1190 to 3360. This morning while driving to work, the MMI screen went black then turned back on with MMI welcome screen and played the radio as we set, none of the buttons on the MMI was functional - the radio was still playing - every few minutes - it shuts off and reboot again to the same radio channel and plays - No communication with buttons - Turned the engine off, took the key out, the MMI was still up and playing - Push the MMI button to turn off - nothing - push the button to close MMI on the dash - nothing.

Wait for it to reset itself - while on the welcome screen - push the MMI on/off button and it's off.

I think this is the reason why the dealer has not returned my call for updating the MMI software to newer version beyond 1190.

Again, I did it because I need to use AMI and camera retrofit. Well, I'll may as well update to 4610 since this doesn't work any how.

Cheers,

Louis

I have a similar problem' my 2006 A8 MMI has developed the fault where intermitently the speakers cut out every 3 seconds.
I have striped the unit down and cleaned it but the problem is still there.
Any clues??

That sounds like Component Protection. Have you changed some module?
