Default ABS

can you run a test on the sensors
go into abs system and read measuring values while driving, it should show speed signal up to 21 kph
if signal equal in all sensors you have a faulty abs controller.
was the replacement unit new? or refurbished?

The ABS control module mounted on the ABS pump that was just installed was a NEW AUDI unit.

I probably should have given a little bit of back ground information on this.

Over the past year and half, sometimes when it rains, snows or the car is washed - the ABS, ESP and the BRAKE warning lights on the dash would come on. The parking brake and headlight level sensor error icons would also come on.

When this happens the ABS, ESP, adaptive cruise and the leveling headlights would not work.

Most of the time, all I had to do was turn the car off and back on. The errors would go away.

Back in February or March of this year it happened and the problem never went away.

I bought a new AUDI ABS sensor and installed it, the errors did not go away.

It was only recently that I had it looked at by the dealer, they said it was the ABS module on the ABS pump. The dealer cost to replace the module was crazy. I bought the new AUDI ABS module and installed it. The errors did not go away. I still get the same fault code for the left rear ABS sensor fault in electrical circuit.

I've just checked W12 schematics and it is a bit different (God knows why). There are only two wires going strait from the ABS module to the left rear sensor (no connections on the way shown). Brown wire from ABS pin 29 to the sensor pin 1 and black wire from 14 to 2.

That history directs to a connection fault. Since there is no connection anywhere on the line it must be one of harnesses. If it would go wrong after washing car it is more probably one on the sensor, but it could be the other one too. 2004 and 2005 are known for connection problems. Check if those two wires are OK. If you disconnect both harnesses ohmmeter should show close to zero resistance on both wires. Also check if one of those fine pins on the module is not bent. Last thing could be that wires are damaged somewhere in between. Ohmmeter should show that too.

Default ABS

only two wires because there's no pad wear sensor
under the rear seat are two connectors for abs sensors

when the controller fails it defaults to rear sensor failure fault
can you post the VIN of the car and the part number you installed?

I just checked the wiring schematics again myself. The 2 pages for the ABS wiring in the BENTLEY are for the different engine options. So, taking a closer look at that information, you are correct in that the left rear ABS sensor is suppose to be #29 and #14 in the connector at the ABS module.

The ABS module is NEW, the left rear ABS sensor is NEW as well - so I take a closer look at the connector at the ABS module and there is not a pin in the #29 position.

That could be my problem if I am lucky.

Do you have any idea how to take that connector apart? so I can check to see if the #29 terminal had pulled out of its position in the connector

2005 A8L
W12 BSB engine code

vin# WAUMR44E85N015213

number on the ABS unit is 4E0 614 517 BD

the part number of the ABS module I bought to go on the pump assembly under the hood was 4E0 998 375 G

all looks spot on

did you double check the coding number?

I went through the coding procedure for the new module. I had previous VAG COM scans to verify the module coding as well. Coding should be 0007637.

Once I went through the coding procedure and then cleared all fault codes. The coding took, but the same fault code for left rear ABS sensor came right back.

when you check measuring values, is there any speed readings on that sensor?
