Default Need New Throttle Body :(

So I am stranded in Johnstown, PA until they fix my S8. I have not even had it for a week and had to tow it to the dealer. They quoted me $1400 bucks!! My question is how often does this occur and could a PPI have identified it?

UPDATE: Dealer is taking care of costs, whew! Still stuck here till Wednesday though.

1. Same price, actually $1600,00 for my turbo beetle. Low volume part means big $$$$

2. Take yours off, remove the clipped on cover, remove the "snowshoe" wipers, wipe the contact points, bend them to add some tension.

3. Wipe the face clean (with a cloth) of the circuit board the contacts normally wipe across.

4. Reassemble and reinstall. You just saved yourself $1600.00 depending on how much you value your time.

I believe S8's have two of them. Just do both and be done with it.

Did this to my Beetle two years ago and it has worked perfect ever since. The one on my 2003 A8 looks identical. I'm sure there is a difference but the operation is the same.

PPI with a VCDS scan might have caught it, only if the dealer hadn't cleared codes in a while. Was the car CPO, or where did you find such a stand-up dealer? That's insane they're paying for it! You sure you don't work for AOA?

Tom

PS to MrB; good to know!

Who is AOA? Dealer is Tradition Chevy out of Newark, NY They said it slipped there inspection and there was no indication of it going bad. Sensor inside the body may have failed.

No, don't work for Audi. I wonder what kind of discount I would get if I did though

Wiping the sensor is a common fix. Pretty easy to do.

All fixed now and finally back home, had them do the 55k service while it was there as well so should not need anything for awhile now.

Looking for a good detailer in the Baltimore/DC area.....also one that does a ceramic paint protection.

Hello Mister Bally,

Please correct me if I am wrong, but are you talking about the mass airflow sensor being cleaned, as the OP is talking about the electric throttle body, and I know of no sensor to clean in that part..
