He explained it in reply #2, which was actually a new tip for me too since these things are big bucks. More so for those of us with two on W12's or S8's. See this video (not the best production admittedly...) that shows going inside:

Late in the video he gets at the contacts/brushes Mister Bally was highlighting. You see it in the still frame image for the link. First time I've seen a Bosch type fuel thing with something you can shade tree mechanic inside since the old CIS warm up regulators. Good tips to know!

Default So how do we know this one is faulty?

The engine just dies, doesn't start?

I am talking about the throttle body. The one on my 2001 Beetle Turbo went bad. My particular one was huge expensive, actually more expensive for the part than the value of the car. Many other versions for other engines were only $2-300.00 . That's why I took mine apart and tried what I did. I didn't look for any video, I just decided to look for an issue.

Maybe I used a poor choice of words, a more appropriate word should have been "encoder" rather than sensor, my bad.

Looking for a good detailer in the Baltimore/DC area.....also one that does a ceramic paint protection.
I used The Car Guys in Millersville. They did a good job with my A8 when I first got it. Last time I was there, they had Richard Petty's old Superbird(street car, not race car) that Chrysler gave him. Pretty car. They always have something cool to look at in their garage.

Aha, I went back and re-read #2 again, now I understand, #7 threw me off "Wiping the sensor is a common fix", I have 6 of the these throttle bodies and want to pick the best 2 to install, so I will be popping the covers to check them out.

Thank you for the heads up !!

For Pete's sake, that's a lot of W12's!
