Not biting the bullet; more like a simple requirement of ownership for anyone who does their own service & maintenance on these vehicles.
Just as this and other things are described in the Sticky at the top of the D3 A8 Thread.
You will be happy you bought the interface the first time you reset the service indicator or troubleshoot a Check Engine light.

I'm excited. I like doing my own work and feeling that satisfaction that I did it myself and took the time and care to do it right.
Thanks

Welcome Cboogie!! Nice ride. The LWB model is so nice, I would now find it hard to get into a NWB A8!! Yes, the few bucks I spent on the Vag-Com has saved me big $$ over the last year....use it for my 2007 Eos as well!! Good luck!!

New to the Acronyms and had to look up LWB .
I'm a tall person and coming from my civic this is almost lke being in a lounger.
I have already took it to Florida, maybe Toronto next. If I can get in touch with my friend up there.

See See, I listen and read the stickies
Already the best purchase I have made so far for my new car.
Christmas came early. This will save me almost $430 on my first repair. Paid for already.

I opted for the Bluetooth music connection (via installation of a Blackberry Stereo Gateway) as detailed here (instead of the AMI):

This has been great, and I even took this aporoach to install it on another vehicle of mine without a Bluetooth music connection.

It is a bluetooth audio adapter. It takes the bluetooth audio and converts it to an analog signal (3.5mm jack). The down side is it needs to be plugged into a USB charger.
