Oil leak, front of 4.2 BFM engine
Hello together,
my '05 A8 has an oil leak at the front of the engine.
I have already changed the crankshaft seal. But after that there is still a leak.
Picture one is before changing the crankshaft seal.
At the second picture I have marked the place where I find new oil after
changing the crankshaft seal.
Any ideas whether this engine have more typical leaks at the front?
Sorry for my bad english.
Best regards
Alex

I had a 1998 D2 A8 with 3,7L V8 (virtually same as 4,2 untill 2005). It had a HUGE oil leak, after the engine had warmed up to over driving temp. The oil vas litterarly pouring out from the engine.
The culprit was the oil pump drive shaft seal (exactly same seal as crankshaft seal), the seal had totally blown away, and only the outer steel ring was left. Took me a week to find the problem, like 5 times swapped the belt etc, washed the engine numerous times.

Hello,
thx for your feedback. The BFM engine don't have this pump drive shaft, which come out of the engine block.
Another possibility is the cam shaft seal, but the waterpump is absolutely dry, no smear of oil on it.
Maybe the oil spray jet is leaking, I will check this soon...
