Default P0300 and P0302

Those that have read the P3089 post know that I've been struggling with the car lately. But it was starting and running fine even after taking it back to the Indy and him noting that he felt someone with more knowledge on the fuel delivery system needed to trouble shoot the code.

Drove to work today and notices what felt like a little rock in the engine. Didn't think much as it smoothed out and drove fine. Well, after starting it to head home this afternoon the engine light started flashing and went off. But I really noticed what appeared to be a rock in the engine. Drove home nice and easy and now have P0300 and P0301 codes:

P0300 - 001 -

000770 - Cylinder 2

Doing some reading it sounds like it could be plugs, vacuum, coil pack, fuel filter or even just the battery. Plugs aren't that old so marking that off the list.

Any suggestions? Getting a little disappointed with the car at this point.

Nothing looks wet on the top and as far down the sides of the engine that I can see.

Given prior post and that it is a 2007 and therefore w/ FSI, why not (still) possible fuel system/pump issue? Other post says indy thought maybe you needed to get car to someone more knowledgable w/ fuel system. Still seems relevant.

I think you also need to at least pull plug and related coil pack of any cylinder you have a code on to do a visual on the plug, any coil pack shorting, etc. SOP is also to rotate the coil pack to some other (non-neighboring) cylinder and see if the code moves with it. But, w/ prior codes/post, would not surprise me if it has a fuel delivery issue sporadically, runs lean, and then you get the misfire codes. Can't diagnose though beyond various ideas here without being hands on the vehicle. Or more likely, finding another mechanic who knows Audi FSI after you check relevant plugs.

Update-
Went ahead and picked up a new set of coil packs and replaced. Issue still there and got the same p0300 and p0302 code. Switched the spark plugs and the issue stayed with cyl 2. Went into the measuring blocks and cyl 2 racked up nearly 300 misfires in less than a min.

Indy loaned me a spark tool that goes in the end of coil pack, but now I need to ground it somewhere. Think I'll have to use a jumper, but anyone know the closest place to ground in the engine compartment?

You say "switched the spark plugs," but I want to be sure you actually mean that instead of meaning you actually moved coil packs around. Obviously if plugs not moved or touched, suspect those. I would have changed plugs myself if I pulled coil packs.

The motor itself is one huge ground (has a tie strap always), so just ground to that. Like one of the hoist points toward front or rear.

If you you continue to find issue isolated to this one cylinder, I would then change the injector. That is, misfires would be suggesting it is running lean. Move it to another cylinder if you want for testing, but sort of a hassle if you narrow it down tightly like this. Also, again, why to pull plugs. If you are familiar reading them, this one should look like it is running hotter than the others if the cylinder is lean. Unlikely to be rich, but if so then more fuel soaked and toward black.

I didn't switch the coil pack and just opted to get new ones after reading a lot about the frequency of issues related to them.

Don't think it's the fuel injector. Just checked the spark and it's not jumping the gap after the first 2-3. I can see a spark, but it's just not making it across.

Checked cyl one to get a comparison and will post the videos. Might have to do it on my computer.

Alright... Need to take a step back and restate the spark observation. Cyl 2 has spark. The tool was in the coil to far causing it to jump to the side wall.

So, now it's looking more like a injector issue.

Anyone ever had one go bad? Even the Indy I use said he's rarely had to replace a fuel injector on an Audi!

Also directly the most basic question still: have you changed plugs? Not really clear in the answers.

Meantime, if you search posts, yes folks have occasionally had bad injectors, both port and FSI motors. They have also had vacuum leaks at the seals, though seems more likely then that they end up with lean codes.

Haven't changed the plugs, but did swap plugs between 2 and 3. Cleared the code and it came back to cyl 2. All plugs were replaced in April.

I know, I know.. Bought new coil packs why not get plugs while I'm at it, right?

Going to search on the fuel injector issue and decide my next step. As for the vacuum, P310B started coming up shortly after the P3089 started which I believe was low pressure fuel regulation. Think that could mean a lean condition?
