Pictures speak a thousand words. Note mileage on the car; a 2004 A8L

Fifth gear allowed a faster climb once we were above 120 MPH.

To be fair, there were two of us in the car, we had two weeks worth of luggage and car cleaning supplies, and an extra 200 pounds (90 Kg) of pinball machine parts that we were taking to Temecula. We were on a 7700 mile road trip.

The salt flats were a bit soft & squishy. I believe the car could go a few MPH faster on Concrete or Asphalt especially if the car was not so loaded with cargo.

It was an awesome experience at Bonneville as well as the entire road trip with my 20 YO son.

Default Realistically, I think your car is one of a very few A8s that

can achieve what's in the picture. I do mean very few cars that are good enough to hold the speed without breaking something or become extremely unsafe.

Cheers,

Louis

I know, but I use linear view and it came just after my post so I couldn't resist.

I prefer linear view. It is like a round table as oppose to few dialogs on the same subject.

Yep and it looks bizarre when you see 5 replies from the same person in a row with no idea what they pertain to.
That's why most of us quote/reply

Back on topic - do you plan to make the shifters as tall as in the picture, or something more subtle ?

Probably more subtle. No need for them to be so big when they are not moving around and this is luxury car after all.

This is what they did for Phaeton:
