I have two problems I think are related. My head lights do not adjust up when running and I am unable to control the ride settings. I was told by the stealership "one of the levelers is out". I ordered the ones in the first pic.

However after getting the tires off I found these:

Can anyone help ID both parts as in what each is called? I was told one is a headlight level sensor and the other is a reide level sensor. Thanks

You should read up on this self study program to learn more about the air suspension in the A8 D3: http://www.volkspage.net/technik/ssp/ssp/SSP_292.pdf

According to the document, the items you ordered in the first picture are the body acceleration senders and mount onto the top of each strut. The second picture shows the vehicle level sender that mounts onto the lower control arm to measure ride height.

If you have VCDS, you can go into control module 34 and check for fault codes. It should tell you which sensor is faulty.

Most likely, your vehicle level sensor or wiring harness is faulty because those sensors are what determine the ride height of the car, which determines the angle of the headlights. The body acceleration sensors are for strut dampening, if I understand correctly.

I just recently had a similar problem with the headlight range control fault popping up on the driver information center and not being able to have the car's air compressor run due to a fault in the electrical circuit in both of the front vehicle level senders. I had broken the wiring at the connector in both because I dropped the subframe too low without disconnecting the connectors while trying to get the oil filter assembly off to replace the oil cooler pipe. I simply bought new connectors, terminals, and seals and put it back together and after adaptation and clearing fault codes via VCDS, it works like normal. No more headlight range control faults.

Generic OBD2 readers don't always give the best results. A VCDS scan would be best.

I don't really follow thread at this point. Is there (still) a question in here? Only one level sensor AFAIK, which is what error code display seems to be saying.

I have never had an issue in that area, but if that wiring passes into the same wiring harness as the ABS sensor and is in same area as ABS unit, realize that is one of the places in the car where some have also found problems with the wiring insulation basically disintegrating inside the wiring bundle once they unwrap it to check. Could fit code too. I would still start w/ the sensor.
