Default After the new shocks - remove the heavy stuff in the tool box

and it still doesn't lift - add some springs - It's been working for me a few years now.

Use a screw driver and close the latch on the lid to see if it's working.

PS: before replacing anything, the best is to troubleshoot the whole system to make sure we don't replace the good part. I've encountered most of the problems we have posted up here and I haven't had to replace anything yet.
Hate to revive an old thread but I have to thank you for this information and your videos. The battery on our S8 died and we had to use key to enter the trunk. Upon installing a new battery and trying to actuate the soft close, the trunk wouldnt latch and the striker was stuck in a, lowered, locked position. After hours of research on the soft close motor and reading the manual about how the locks position on the trunk disables and enables the interior trunk switch, i decided to try out a theory, based off your suggestion of everything needing to be in sync, set the latch to lock position and used the trunk button on the trunk itself to pretend to reopen the trunk. Low and behold the soft close motor turned on and let the striker go back to an open position.

A big heads up. Make sure to either attach a battery tender to the terminals or get a cigarette lighter version as ive been told the tcm can reset on these cars. Also, I was about to buy a replacement motor. Ebay has tested units for $30 where the replacement was $500 from the stealership.
