Default Removal of Start Button housing help?

I have a 2006 A8L with sticking buttons. I removed the MMI housing (by which I mean the wood-finished portion that includes the buttons, the control ****, the cup holder, etc)
I want to "lift" the smaller, chrome-accented portion within the housing in order to remove, clean, and reassemble the sticky buttons
( Back arrow | Return | Right arrow ) and the
CAR
SETUP
buttons, but the rectangular plastic housing that the START | STOP buttons are attached to is Too large and preventing me from "lifting" it up...
There are several small clips around the black housing, but is that thing supposed to split in half in order to remove it? Damned frustrating. Any help is appreciated.
** I did find a write up by OneHotAvant from 2008, but it was so old pictures are no longer available **

It's been a while since I changed mine out, but there is a key pin you need to pull out to get the stop start button out. Yes, it looks like it just clips in to the area when you first look at it. But if you start pulling hard you realize something is hanging up. If you keep pulling it would probably break stuff so don't do that.

With this in mind, look carefully for a pin/rod type thing locking parts together that you push out first to free up the start stop button assembly and get it to come out. Its been long enough that I don't recall if there is a circlip or something holding the pin you remove first. Bentley would tell you more.

No clips , the brass colored pin just slides out. Ii is located about center of the switch.

Thank you. I was just about to post some pictures. Which I guess I will in case anyone else needs a visual. Thanks again!

So this is the culprit ...

Hope you got it but you have to pull it out. It comes out fairly easily.

Yes I did, thanks again. I'll post some pictures that will hopefully pay it forward.
