Default S8 Gas mileage... what are you guys getting?

Just out curious, came back from a 600 mile trip this weekend and the car averaged around 18-19mpg cruising around 80. (per the computer, too lazy to do it the math way)

I thought on highway runs i would be in the low 20s, maybe air/fuel filter and plugs are in order.

I do all city driving - I do the math @ fill up. On average, I get 15.5 per gallon.

Hey Halik, why don't you go back to Anandtech with your stupid questions!

I kid, I kid! Anyways, I would guess that your actual is a couple mpg lower (my experience with computer vs real with 4.2 A8L). I don't think you will get that much better with the 5.2, but you might as well do filters if they haven't been done in a while or your don't have records (you bought used right?). Also, if you are in a cold climate, you will most certainly have worse mileage in the winter.

Haaah small world!

Winter blend definitely sucks up good 2 mpg, but 18-19s still seem a bit low. I've got a fuel filter sitting in the garage and will give the dealership that serviced it a ring about the plugs (at $11 a plug, i'd rather ask first before buying em...)

BMC filters will get ordered as soon as i get back from vacay.

Default Agreed on those #'s; both suck in town; W12 maybe bit better on open road

My numbers over the years from my 2006 W12 are virtually the same--per both the tank way and my calibrated gauge (it needed a 3% correction factor).

The W12 has the highest gearing (lowest numerical final drives) of any North America D3, while the S8 has the lowest. Thus, the W12 can likely show a little better on the open road even with another 0.8L of displacement and a bit more heft. The lower gearing is what keeps them close acceleration wise (or slight nod to S8 off the line), even though the W12 has so much torque down low.
