Default Shady Dealers

I have seen this a couple times with Audi's, people badging the lesser models with the "S" badging. This guy's one of those shady downtown dealers asking too much for what it actually is, trying to catch someone ignorant of how to tell it from the genuine article. Anyone else see much of this?

Caveat Emptor...if someone is dumb enough to buy a car that says S8 on the grille without doing homework they deserve what they get. Also a VIN check would clearly show that it is an A8, and in the description it says A8, so who knows. But that's why I won't buy a car from some no name penny-ante dealer with a handful of cars in an alley

I see where you are coming from but you're kind of blaming the victim. If someone is conniving enough to try and knowingly scam someone, it is never the victims fault.

Also, the description text says A8, so I'm sure they built in a "safety net" for themselves to keep them from getting sued for false advertising. Pretty clever.

Might not be the dealer, might be the schmuck they bought it from. A couple months back while I was looking at and test driving Mercedes s class I found a few badged as S55, when they were 430's! It happens everywhere.

That's an easier one to get away with. Throw some AMG alloys on it and some quad exhaust tips and it'll look near as dammit the same. It's still a non supercharged V8 under the hood with the early ones which looks the same to the untrained eye. How many people dumb enough to go to one of these back alley crooks would know that the instruments are AMG branded and an AMG engine has a name and signature plate on it...as well as a bunch of other AMG specific stuff?

Trying to pass off an A8 as an S8 though is just dumb because of the unique engine. Audi engines have the engine type written all over them!
