Default Side marker delete - with pics

Decided to pop out the front amber side marker lights and give them the 3M carbon fiber heat shrink wrap treatment.
It doesn't quite have the high quality look of the rest of the car, but it coordinates with the interior and can be easily removed - I like it.

Another option would be clear lenses, but I couldn't find any for sale - anybody know a source or have another idea / recommendation?

Why would you want to eliminate a light that was designed into the vehicle for safety? It also may violate government safety standards. Get into an accident and a Lawyer may say that contributed to the accident. Would you be liable for this?

Just my thoughts.

Good point, but I have several immature reasons to remove them;
  • Looks better.
  • Europe doesn't have them.
  • I can pass inspection without.
  • They'll still see me - I always make sure the rotors are glowing red hot.
  • I'm a bit of a rebel... I tear off mattress tags too.

What are those little lights (the ones covered up) in the bumper for? Are they indicators?

My car doesn't have them.

Its a USA thing, DOT requires them for all cars sold in US, alleged safety requirement. They come on when the light are turned on, not part of the turn signals.

Default are you referring to those round "park assist" dots on the bumper cover trim?

Maybe you don't have parking assist? It would automatically engage when put in reverse. I thought all D3s had this feature standard, but i could be wrong...

Ahh ok. Is this why the rear lamps are different also? Does the side of them light up? My tail lamps seem to have the ability to light up (beside the stop lamps on the flank of the car) but they don't light up.

I have full Park assist. Front and rear. Just no amber lights in the front bumper.

Beginning in 1968 all cars (US) had to have side (or corner) markers and front and rear reflectors for safety reasons. Thanks Ralph Nader.
@mcs your rear lamps may be built with the lights in the side, just not enabled

My left rear marker light went out, so I just disconnected the right rear one to even up the look. Not worth $300 for a new light fitting that the Euro ones don't have anyway.
