Default Stuck midway through job, can't get steering column off

Got what should be the hards bits done, airbag out, steering wheel removed.. But can't find any fitting for the 2 deeply recessed screws either side of the lower column.. See photo. I can't even see the type of fitting. On so deep.

Need the column off to replace a broken cruise control stalk!

They are Torx T9 if I remember right. Yes, really deep. I took a T9 with a pretty long tip already and still had to cut some of the plastic off the shark to get it to go in far enough. Once you get it in deep enough, they simply unscrew of course. You also want the column adjustment as far down and out as possible. Gives maximum flexibility for getting upper piece of trim out. In picture your column looks like at least it is near the upper part of the vertical adjustment.

As you go in deeper on parts removal, be really careful with the clock spring not so turn the movable part or damage it. Expensive mistake if made. IIRC you have to take that off to in turn get to the stalk stuff. New ones come with something that looks kind of like a plastic grenade pin to hold it in a fixed position so the inner part doesn't rotate; you pull the pin once installed and before the wheel goes on.

Same here. I don't know if there is standard Torx that long. May be special Audi tool.

Default Correction: T8

I just found my tool and stuck it in the trim hole to check. It is a T8 (not T9). Mine has a 2-½" metal shaft before the screwdriver type handle, but I cut it back some along the shank to get it in a bit more. Net, it needs about 2 ¾"/70mm of length to access the screws when they are tight.

Excellent thanks guys, went out and got a precision screwdriver set with extension. It is T8.

In summary all the following were needed:
One 4mm Allen key
T8 bit
T30 bit
T55 bit

Rest was very easy, new stalk installed.

After doing all that took it out on the road to try ACC for the first time only to be greeted with a message "ACC Sensor Blocked". If its the square piece in the middle of the lower grill its not blocked..

It is the square piece in the middle of the lower grill. I was using mine just tonight and got the same message after about 15 minutes of slight drizzle. If you had any weather, may just be the same. Should be unrelated to what you did; if you got a message from the column work it would be an angle sensor error. The angle sensor is part of that clock spring assembly you had out per your pictures.

This morning scrubbed it down, very clean now but still no dice, ACC Sensor blocked when over 30kph (annoying to test of course as you only get the message/can enable at driving speeds).
I suspect there is something wrong behind the plastic in the the lower grill.
