Timing belt rubbing on cover
#21
The belt position on the cam gears looks fine. My belt position looked the same before, and after I replaced the belt. I actually placed the belt centerline on the gears, after manually turning the crank over, it positioned it self to the edge like in your pictures.
That rubbing issue was caused by improper installation of the TB covers. There is a tab on the lower cover that must fall into a slot in the torque support. It is possible to slide the tab behind the slot, thus causing rubbing issues due to lack of clearance. In your case, the tab that interlocks the lower and upper (Drivers Side) gear covers did not slide in between, it overlapped instead pushing the lower cover aft into the belt. How do I know? I just went through this, this past weekend. Luckly I caught it before it gave me any issues.

Dropped it off at Audi today so they can start their investigation. Also request they replace the timing belt because of the "wandering", facial damage from cover, and possibility it was not timed with the timing tool, he said it is understandable and would relay it to the service manager. They gave me a very nice 2015 Q5. They are quite comfortable but like to sway on the interstate and are a tad bit more bumpy.

I wouldn't worry about it. Anyone that would say that would either have to be a moron or expect you to be.
