Tpms install
I don't have the tpms option in my 2007 s8 ( Canadian). Can I install sensors as an afterthought? Is the software (4160) already in the system?

Welcome to the board!
It is all there but somebody turned the system off because sensor batteries are dead. You need aftermarket sensors and VCDS to turn the system on.

I don't believe it was there as I don't remember seeing it on the build sheet. There were certainly no wheel sensors when I bought the car as a second owner.

If TPMS was not installed at all than there is no module and no software. Besides it system has 5 sensors, four antennas and wiring. Module is a small whitish box under the rear bench (easy to lift, just like any other car). Also check the spare wheel for a sensor.

It may be. I have 7K3 there and I have TPMS. If that is the case I think it is better to forget it.
Check this tread. Wug is nice guy. He can do that for you too.

In Canada TPMS is an option, sometimes not fitted. Definitely not something I would ever retrofit or even want due to the cost/effectiveness/difficulty of retrofit of the system. The TPMS in the D3 A8's is still very nice as it reports actual TPMS values, as well as temperatures. Though the systems are much outdated and overpriced. Be glad that you can change out wheels without having to get new sensors fitted.
