Crazy!

I think they also fixed the car more than they told us.

It's quite amusing. However it's a trick trailer, and the "trailer" has a driver in it is actually towing the car. See here for more info as well as a "how it was done" video.

Volkswagen Pranks Everybody With A Trick Passat Towing A Trailer
Trick trailer certainly, but they say that guy in the car was feeling and following turns. My experience with reversing any car says it wont work that simple. Steering geometry is designed to keep front wheels strait without steering input when driving forward. The same one is doing exactly the opposite in rivers. It tends to steer to one side. That trailer can't possibly prevent it. So it would be very dangerous to do all that in the video. On the other hand, with all video editing possibilities, even building a trick trailer is waste of time and money. They could do all those maneuvers slowly and then incorporate them in the regular traffic.

I imagine part of the prep was adjusting the car's alignment as far as possible to make it more stable at higher speeds in reverse. A bit of toe out on both axles would probably do the trick well enough, and a couple of stunt drivers and there you have it. Not sure doing it virtually would be very effective though, especially with regards to the comedy passer by reactions!

No tricks, no gimmicks. No safety net either.
