Default trunk issues

hey all. my first post here. i recently got my a8 d3 and have a minor trunk issue. the trunk button would occasionally work or i would just need to help it open or close most of the time. but thats not really why i made this post. the problem is the trunk lid will not close tight....there would be some play. its like loose that i can kinda pull it up and down still. it will latch and lock but not tight. so everytime i go over bumps, i can hear the trunk rattle. what could be the problem here?

thanks.

Failed trunk latch pin pull down mechanism. Either the motor (it's under the battery) or the latch pin mechanism spring has snapped.

To really fix the slow/no trunk opening issues, there are three things that need to be done.

1 - replace the trunk motor with new metal one
2 - replace the pneumatic lift assist shocks.
3 - lubricate the hinges.

Do all of that and all of your trunk opening issues will be gone with the wind.

thanks for the suggestions.

the problem is not really the auto close/open function of the trunk. the problem is that when its shut closed.....it doesnt close tight and snug. there is quite a bit of play that everytime i go over bumps the trunk lid is rattling because its loose. i can wiggle the trunk lid up and down still eventhough its already closed.

anyways...i just did a temporary fix by taking out the spring and locking the catch rod to its down position. i just then adjusted the whole catch assembly higher so that the trunk lid mechanism can still catch the rod. it works fine now and the trunk lid closes fine and stays snug and flush all the time. is this gonna hurt something? because if not ill just leave it as it is and thats one less thing to worry about.

There are two ways to do things. One is to defeat the feature altogether and the other is to make it work as it was designed. My son had an issue with his trunk and he took out both motors. When he decided to sell the car, he took a hit because those features didn't work. Seems that the dealer checked all those things.
