VCDS cable, too good to be true?
VAG COM.docx
I found these amazing deal on the cable, on Kijiji but I was wondering if it is a pirated version or maybe somebody out there figured it out and it's a legitimate thing.
If you read through the description two names are mentioned, one in Denmark actually.I don't want to support pirated stuff, but if it's legitimate and a different version of a similar product I would consider it.

A long time ago my dad taught me that you don't skimp on tools. A failure in a tool can be serious and lead to injury or worse- same is true for electronic tools.
I have since widened that list to include tires and brakes as well.
There is a place for cheap tools, just not in my toolkit.

Any of these counterfeit VCDS cables, even if you could get them to work properly, as soon as Ross-Tech does a firmware update, they will only be good for tying down a broken trunk lid.
There are other less expensive, legitimate OBDII VAG tools with their own software that can do many mods and scans, i.e. OBDeleven and for simple mods and basic scans, Carista. No need to buy junk offshore cables if an official VCDS is out of your budget.

Doesn't the TCD cable use their own software? If so, it's not a "clone", it's an alternative VAG product. If you use their cable with the Ross-Tech full version VCDS software, that would be a violation of R-T's copywrite use, no different than using a counterfeit cable with VCDS. Since you have a Ross-Tech cable, I'm not sure why would you use TCD cables with VCDS software. Are you using the cables professionally?
