I'd recommend a Q7 for your use, having my eyes on V12TDI:s
Here are my cars:
Second daily driver, Volvo S90 Executive/Royal -98
To the A8L it's a straight comparison, as comfortable to drive, but a step more towards long distance cruising, seats 4-5 people comfortably, but eats as much gas, tough less performance (3,0L 24V I6 204hp/267Nm + 4spd Auto&RWD).
Hobby Car, Volvo 340DL -1986 (swapped the Renault 1,4L carb to Volvo 2,5L 16v Turbo+IC, delivering around 450hp/700Nm 408hp/664Nm on the paper with 20psi boost, now running 30ps).
Compared to the A8L W12 its cruel, brutal, and the performance is sick. 101120121947.jpg.html][IMG]Comfort is on a good par, but it's not as roomy at all. Safetywise it's terrible, no ABS, airbags, no nothing, only raw engine power.
Oh, and yes, if you wonder about the black stuff behind the rear wheel arch, that is actually rubber from the rear tires!

1982 Fiat X19 DD in the summer and 2008 VW Touareg to pull the boat. The Fiat is at the complete opposite end of the automobile spectrum in every aspect, but I like it anyway!

From the factory my 340DL has got as much as ZERO accessories, NO AC, NO powersteering, NO central locking, no electric mirrors or Windows (all these are ultra rare, except the central locking or PS, that were later standard on 2,0L models). The only real acessories this car has had from the factory was a bit better upholstery on the seats, and 4speaker casette radio. LOL.
Tough, i've installed electric mirrors, remote central locking, with pop-up trunk, and going to install a car Computer, to play music, adjust ECU etc.

I have amassed a few toys in the last few years. Was always a one car guy....now I have three cars to choose from in the summer.
73 Alfa Romeo Spider:
I bought an 87 944 turbo in mint condition with 280 wheel HP and 290 ft-lbs of wheel torque this summer:
And I just sold a 93 968 to get this 99 996 with 31K miles on it....has 34K now.
Let's just say I've gotten back into the garage in the last few years. Right now I'm modding the 996 interior with some custom OEM stuff.

2008 A6 4.2 S-Line is wife's car -- and alternative to my A8. It is nice having this option. Funny, as the A6 was my daily driver (gift to me by her for a birthday several years ago) and when we bought her the "8," she felt it was too big for her (moved up from a S4). I was glad when she suggested swapping cars. Now she loves the "6" and I was more than happy to take the "8" off her hands.
And the other option for some "wind therapy" is a 2005 Harley Ultra Classic. And when I combine them (the A6 pulling the Harley) it gets some pretty interesting looks from passers by....
