Default When does the "Service !" indicator really mean it ???

My '04 A8L now has 20,000 miles on the odometer, and I recently saw the "Service !" Indicator in the center dash display. It would come on whenever I started the car, and go out as soon as I would put the car in gear. The indicator had the usual display, indicating how many days and how many miles were left until service was due. I've seen this display twice before, both times it signalled that the oil was due for a change at the prescribed maintenance intervals. Both times Audi changed the oil and reset the indicator.

So I made an appointment with my dealer for the car to be checked, and picked up the car tonight, expecting to find a service invoice that indicated that the fluids had been changed.

Here's what the invoice says:
A) Customer states service light is on.
Cause: E
D Reset service light.

No oil change was done, which is what I thought the service light was supposed to indicate. Of course, I picked up the car after the service department was closed, so there was no one to ask. Before I go beserk on my service advisor, "Blanca", tomorrow morning, I am curious to know if I am right. When is the service indicator supposed to indicate service, and when can it be reset (ignored) ??

Default There is a problem with the service indicators on a lot of D3's...

Ever since the 15k service mine has to be reset every 100 miles and I'm not the only one with this problem.

Default Wouldn't the next service after 15,000 be at 22,500 miles ??

If so, my indicator light would be off, but just by a little (20K instead of 22.5K). The problem is when it will indicate service is due again, especially if it was reset today.

25k...however the VAG5051/52/53 only allow for 8K max interval.

Default So, then, if we can "ignore" the service indicator lights....

..... shouldn't Audi let us know so that we don't waste our time bringing in our cars for non-issues? I lost the use of my car for an entire day so that an Audi trained tech could reset my indicator light.

The next time the light comes on, can I assume that's a false alarm, too? I think this is a major issue, maybe it has something to do with the fact that Audi picks up the tab for routine service. I'd venture that there'd be no problem performing any service, indicated or not, if I was paying for it.

Another "shame on you", Audi. Are you listening??
