Wow, I was just looking at component protecting in that hidden menu the other day. I wonder what the trick is to unlock it. The option is there but you can't select it.

Yep I did that research this morning.

According to Uwe at Ross-Tech it is a pin challenge system similar to the immobilizer that only the dealer has the keys to.

Guess I'll wait until I have time to visit my dealer before installing it

Install it yourself just before you go there. It is literally peace of cake and they will charge probably another hour for that.

That's the plan! They are not at all fond of you bringing in parts anyhow.

Probably do it this weekend while installing the new scuff plate on the passenger side.
The one that's been sitting in my office for the last 3 weeks

Making an appointment with my SA will motivate me to get them done....

Hello!

I am new to this forum.
I have bought 2005 year Audi A8 (D3) 6.0 W12 and waiting it to arrive from Japan in about a month.
I am almost sure that it won't be able to play MP3 CDs, so want to be prepared for upgrading MMI.

Mishar, is this the right part number that you have installed too?
4E0-057-110-E
Is it working well?
Can I use VCDS software to avoid COMPONENT PROTECTION problem?

P.S. does anyone know any solution for making MMI to playback music from SD cadr and USB drive?

Many thanks.

I replaced my 111 unit with the 110 MP3 unit.
Yes cp needs to be removed by dealer.
Nothing else will work.
As said before install it before you go in to dealer.
My dealer could not do it said it was the wrong model.
Went to someone else with online to Audi and did it.
If they are competent they will do it if not they will fob you off.
See how you go with dealer if no good I have a plan b for you.

For usb Audi ami is the to go
Then you really don't need MP3 CD player

Welcome to the board!

Please fill your profile so people know where are you. It makes difference since A8's are different for some markets.

Part number is right, but I would suggest you to wait to see if one in your car actually plays MP3. Japan market and W12 should be very advanced at the time. It is even better if you buy AMI (Audi Media Interface). There you can connect your phone or even HD with endless capacity for MP3's. It goes in the glove box, next to the CD player. Very easy to install if you get proper cables and fiber optic junction with it. You can also install it instead of th CD player, but you will need it if you have to update your MMI software (quite likely).

Thank you mishar!

I have added some info to my profile so I think for the beginning it will be good.

I am located in Tbilisi, Georgia. This is a very small country between Europe and Asia. Unfortunately, we have NO official and authorized Audi representative here, but we have 1 or 2 service centers, where they sell new Audi vehicles and have some kind of diagnostic tools and specialists for engine and etc repairs.
For getting OEM (and other) parts for good prices, I have to use eBay (or other online shops) and wait for them to arrive for 5-10 days.

That's why I depend on the WEB forums and online friends attention, because here in my country are NO enough qualified specialists.

So, many thanks for your advices and help.

First of all, as I have made my decision, I have to get Audi Media Interface, because for 99% my Audi won't have MP3 CD changer.

May be I can find it on Electronics, Cars, Fashion, Collectibles, Coupons and More | eBay what do you think?
Or may be it would be better to take that CD changer with MP3 capability?
