I appreciate the feedback. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't completely off base. Just to clarify, the engine was full of oil and the lock up occured 3K miles after the service. My suspicion is that they used the wrong or contaminated oil. Dealer says they were unable to determine what is seized let alone what caused it.
The only conclusion I can draw is that they (Gossett Audi in Memphis) are either knowingly culpable or completely incompetent. My dream car just became my nightmare.

Nobody likes to see their name in the context of poor service, especially on the largest Audi enthusiast site, especially when someone like Mr Hansen has something to say about it...

From the info provided thus far..
It would seem the dealership is in major 'CYA'/damage-control mode. They don't want to do a tear-down (because they already know what happened or don't want to expend more time on it?) but would take it in as a trade-in? I'd do a VCDS-dump and then have a competent 3rd-party Audi dealership took a look. Also interesting that AoA would not be keen on figuring out what went awry with this engine.

Just got it back from the dealer yesterday. Of course the oil has been drained and no signs that the engine has been touched. Spoke to the service advisor who insists that the engine is badly damaged btu could say exactly how or what. I also spoke with a former mechanic from this dealership who indicated he'd never heard of this engine locking up. He suspects someone at the shop screwed up. He also said this dealer is great about resolving little problem but that they can be real jerks when it comes to major repairs. I'll be reaching out to the owners and AOA Monday. You'd think with this being my 4th Audi and 3rd vehicle from this dealership that I'd get better treatment. I'll also be sending the dealer a list of all the people I've sent to them over the years who have also been loyal customers. Worst case scenario is that I'll have to pay to fix the car. Best case for the dealer is that they will correct the situation and keep a loyal customer. They have been doing this long enough to figure out their worst case. I'll give them another shot to make this right before taking it to the legal system and social media. In the meantime I'll just have to enjoy the smell of the leather as my A8 sits in the garage.
