2014, 2015 & 2016 3.0 Litre Oil and Filter Change
In the next month or two I will be doing an oil and filter change on my 2016 Audi A8L, 3.0 Litre engine. I'll be going with the Audi/VW oil filter, part number: 06E 115 562 E and 7 quarts of Castrol 5W-40 Edge Professional OE Full Synthetic oil. Just as an FYI, the 3.0 Litre engine holds 7.1 quarts of oil or 6.8 liters. I'll be putting in 6 1/2 quarts of oil to start with and slowly add oil a bit at a time until the electronic oil measurement in the MMI registers full ( with the engine at operating temperature. I will film the oil and filter change so I can post it for my fellow enthusiasts. It's the 2016 Audi A8L, D4. I will include the torque values for the oil filter holder as well as what the exact oil capacity of the 3.0 Litre engine in the video.

I would buy a dipstick for it if DIY'ing.
Yes, I would change oil in less than a year/10K. Until newest ones, first change was after 5K, and switch just seems to be another way to cheap out on AudiCare service cost (I bet they didn't cut price there...) and have owners come in for less warranty service at margin. More generally, I am still a believer in low mileage first changes. On my 2015 CPO, first owner only clocked 3200 miles in a year, so effectively I got one on mine. I am more concerned about miles than time with quality synthetics. In Europe they run them out to two years--and up to twice the miles--with the variable oil change sensor system enabled. In US spec, I'm comfortable at 10K with Audi spec oils for normally aspirated, but less so for turbo or blown. On Mini S turbo I owned as my first boosted one, the variable system there said around 15K per change; I did either one or two in between--every 5K or 7.5K. Not the most reliable motor around to begin with, and it was still starting to burn some oil even with more attention my around 50K when it got totaled. Audi motors are a lot better designed than that was; now higher HP per liter with attendant stresses (that one was pretty high for its day).

Absolutely! If you drive 10,000 or more miles in less than a year, you'll need to do an oil change. Most of my driving are short trips around town and in my case I change my oil and filter every 5,000 miles or 6 months. I look at it this way, I just bought my 2016 A8L and it cost me something a little north of $77,000, given I'm a senior citizen I'd like this car to last me at least 15 years so I stay on top of the car's "consumables ", if I can afford the car, I can afford the $60 or so dollars for an oil & filter.

I have the factory dipstick for the 3.0 liter engine. I agree with you when it comes to oil changes, simple put, the more often the better. Seized engines are truly ugly things to look at.

Will look forward to the DIY video. Have been taking our 2015 A8L 3.0 to the dealer for oil changes as I have been hesitant to have the local oil change shops try it, especially since there is no dipstick or drain plug. Will be interested to see how the filter element change works as well.
