W12 motor update for D5. See: VW announces reworked 6.0 W12 TSI engine - Autoblog 600HP, 664 lb. feet.

Agreed with comments about (need) for better differentiation. I looked at it some in making my D4 choice. But, very few around--fewer than D3 in its time. Having owned the D3, this time I was more convinced four seater did NOT make great sense, which is how 80% or more of them come. Then add a good half or more are black on black, or at least black interior on maybe up to 80%, and it makes for a pretty monochromatic look. The COD did have it make a little more sense gas wise, but only on the late models, of which there are almost none. And it depreciates like a rock--easily 50% in 30 years, even without a model change pending.

When I got the D3, at the time the Amaretto concept was something new and interesting. Similarly with D4 I went for the upscale Vermont Brown interior when it finally came out with refresh. I have little doubt if they want to, they could be more innovative here. For example, they showed the Poltrona Frau interior several years ago, but nothing came of it in North America. ...Unless that is you look at it and notice it is similar to the Vermont Brown S8 choice except different complementary trim colors and materials. A8 Audi Exclusive Concept shows off brand's interior chops - Autoblog Even there it was an S8 take off, and W12 got no exclusive version beyond Balao Brown--an acquired taste among a few I guess. They do sell enough to have it make sense to jazz it up better--more so in Europe. Starts with the Chancellor of Germany's ride. Of course, those are black too...

Makes sense Derf. Otherwise indistinguishable from the rest of the fleet.

Excellent car, possibly the best in large sedans category (bar none, at any price), BUT the trunk is too small!

Handicapped for x-country trips!
Also, tank is smaller now- ~20g.

Both changed w / 2015 facelift. Trunk grew marginally cubic feet wise, but was also reshaped to improve usability. Having held off on D4 for many years pre facelift and been spoiled by D3, I felt facelift D4 trunk was no longer something I had to apologize for. So far from back to back ownership of the two and lots of familiarity with always regarded as generous D3 trunk, it seems fine.

Gas tank shrunk to 21.7 gallons/82L from old 90 liter size. But mileage has also been going up at the margin, so range is still similar. Yeah, I liked old D3 90L (23.7 gallon) size for example, but didn't like the higher fill cost. I'll take same range and more power easily over bigger tank just to burn more. If it were both more fuel on board for total range, and the power and economy then great. But, it also helped give them the trunk room that was in shorter supply before facelift.
