Default A8L Roof Rack for Bikes?

Looking to move from a Porsche Cayenne Diesel to an A8L Tdi. Concerned that I am going to miss my "utility".

- Hatch
- Trailer hitch for hitch mounted bike rack
- Fold down seats

Looking forward to a better ride for all of the miles I log.

I was considering a road trip to Vail to ride and came to the conclusion that the only way to get a bike there in my A8 was to completely disassemble it. I have roof racks for my wife's Q5 but I have no interest in driving her car that distance.

The ride quality and comfort for long distance driving is amazing but with two small kids and a minor mountain bike addiction, I find myself pondering something that is smaller on the outside yet larger on the inside, like a Tardis or Range Rover.

Ironically my wife too, drives a Q5 (Sq5), and couldn't agree more that for a trip I want the A8L. Saw that the base bars from Audi are only available for the short wb A8.

Thanks for your insight.

Range Rovers are outstanding providers of Luxury and Utility. For me, it was a tight decision between an A8 and a Range Rover. At the end of the day, the A8 made more sense for me, but for you, perhaps the other makes more sense.

I was torn between the two as well... there was an extremely nice Autobiography edition range rover with the DVD, reclining comfort rear seats and leather covered everything (even the headliner), for the same price as the '12 A8 that I ended up getting.
Tough decision honestly, but I guess I liked being closer to the ground and I still preferred the overall "A8 experience"

I have been waiting for roof racks for the A8L, but still no word from Audi, if and when, and why not? Cannot image it has to do with the longer roof line and weight limits?

On another note, the dealer told me to just get the Thule Racks instead of the Audi racks for my Q7, but as it turns out the price is the same! About $500. For an occasional use? WHAT?? Thule thinks they are selling Gold Plated Titanium Iridium Alloy SPACE RACKS!

Mike check our Rhino:
Vortex 2500 RS 2 Bar Roof Rack - These are aero bars very similar to Thule.

My biggest disappointment in Audi is not having reasonable rack options for this car.

I picked this up my my A8L. You can buy any attachment you like - bike, skis...I put a Thule box on mine for surf and ski trips and it works great.

Cool, thanks....I'll look into it...

I want to get something that can be used on my Q7 and the A8. My Thule's I bought when I had a 1994 325 is and used it on that and my 1997 M3 also. I got the new "fit Kit" when I moved on to a 2000 A6 and then my 2003 RS6, I was foolishly looking to Thule for a "fit Kit" for the A8, but no luck. They have abandoned the old design for the "Aero" type and I am sure that the Aero Type will save sooooo much gasoline LOL.
